Apple Intelligence Deep System Integration
Apple Intelligence moves from an add-on feature to a foundational system layer in macOS 26. The Writing Tools that launched in macOS Sequoia are now expanded system-wide and integrated into every text field, every document, and every communication app. Siri can now take action within applications — not just answer questions about them.
The new “Context Engine” in Apple Intelligence means Siri now understands what you are working on across applications and can proactively offer relevant assistance. If you are writing an email and have a calendar conflict, Siri surfaces it without prompting. This level of cross-application awareness is new to macOS.
Enhanced Window Management
macOS 26 introduces a redesigned Stage Manager with improved window tiling. Windows can now be arranged in preset layouts (quarter-screen, thirds, custom) with keyboard shortcuts. The snap-to-grid behavior that Windows and some third-party tools have offered is now native to macOS.
Passwords App Replacement
The iCloud Keychain has evolved into a full Passwords application with a dedicated interface, separate from System Settings. When to Upgrade
macOS 26 requires Apple Silicon (M1 or later) or Intel Macs with T2 security chip. If your Mac cannot run macOS Sonoma (2017 and older Intel), it cannot run macOS 26. Apple Intelligence features require M1 Pro, M2, or later for full functionality — older M1 Macs get reduced AI capabilities.
